Living with a Spanish Host Family

There are many families in Alcalá who regularly host our students in their homes, allowing foreign students the opportunity to live with a Spanish family in a totally Spanish atmosphere and thereby proving enriching for both the visiting student and the hosting family.

The families participating in our program are rigorously selected by the IUIN, and are evaluated not only on past experience hosting American students, but also on family atmosphere and hospitality.  Our students, during their stay here in Alcalá, are made to feel like another member of the family.  Our host families offer:

• Vast experience in hosting foreign students
• Exceptional quality of facilities
• Each student is assured his/her own bedroom.
• Student bedrooms contain places for books, a study desk, and ample space for personal items.
• Each student is assured his/her own bathroom.
•  Many houses have internet access, air conditioning, and/ or swimming pool.
• Our host families live no more than a 20 minute walk from the Historic Center of Alcalá.
• All of the IUIN families live in areas with direct access to bus lines running to the Escuela Universitaria Cardenal Cisneros.

Apartments in Alcalá

For the student choosing to live in an apartment, the IUIN will provide a list of apartments for rent, either within the Historic Center of Alcalá or near the EUCC campus.

University Residence Hall on EUCC Campus

Students have the option of residing in the University Residence Hall, located on the EUCC campus just steps away from the where IUIN classes are held.  The University Residence Hall, as part of the EUCC campus, is located a mere 10 minutes (walking) from the train station and 20 minutes from the historic center of Alcalá. 

The cozy atmosphere of La Residencia allows the student to lead a comfortable life while he/ she is far away from home.  The facilities and services include pool, TV room, gymnasium, library, cafeteria, and cleaning service.  These facilities, of course, may also be used by any IUIN student, whether or not he/ she lives in la Residencia.

La Residencia is a co-ed dorm, though there do exist areas which are strictly male or female.  There are a total of 107 places, these distributed between single and double rooms.  All rooms are equipped with telephone and internet service.

The student choosing the single room option with full room and board will enjoy the following:

• Power, water, and heat included in price*.
• 3 meals a day, 7 days a week.
• Telephone (calls made to destinations outside of the Residencia will be paid by the student) and free Internet connection from rooms.
• Security guard, reception, and maintenance services.
• Weekly clearing service including bedroom linens.
• Daily clearing service for communal bathrooms/ shower areas as well as common areas in general.
• Access to study rooms, TV rooms (with VHS/ DVD), and library.
• Messenger and mail service in reception.
• Maintenance service for damage caused through the normal use of the room.
• Access to the gymnasium and all sports facilities pertaining to the Residencia.
• Use of the pool and all open/ picnic areas pertaining to the Residencia.
• Free entry to all cultural and sports activities organized by the Residencia (except those courses or activities which obligatorily assign a fee). 

*Included in price of room is the average normal consumption/ use of said utilities.  Any extraordinary consumption will be paid by the student.
