Javier Blanco Planelles

Masterpieces of Spanish Art   

Professor Blanco earned his Bachelor of Arts in Geography and History (specializing in Art History) from the Universidad de Alcalá.  He has been a professor at the Universidad de Alcalá since 1989, and has taught American students in Spain since 1990.  In addition to his post at the IUIN, Javier Blanco is professor of Art and Art History at the CEU San Pablo and at CEU Luis Vives. He has taught in various European universities, including Durham (UK), Uppsale, Stockholm, and Paris.  Professor Blanco has served as Director of the Instituto Universitario Internacional- Escuela Universitaria Cardenal Cisneros since its founding in 2003. 

Dr. Aranzazu Narbona Moreno

Dr. Narbona was awarded her PhD in Economics from the Institut d´Etudes Politiques de Paris (2005), after having earned her DEA in Economics and her B.A. in Economics, both from the Universidad de Alcalá.  Dr. Narbona has done extensive scientific research throughout Europe, the US, and Latin America, and continually publishes articles in economic journals in various languages and throughout the world.
Dr. Narbona served as Programs Coordinator for the University of California- Universidad de Alcalá in 2003-2004, and has been a member of the IUIN faculty since 2006.
 
Dr. Susana Juárez Martínez

Dr. Juárez earned her PhD in English from the Universidad de Alcalá in 1997.  She completed her Master of Arts in Spanish at Bowling Green State University in 1995, after earning her Bachelor of Arts degree at the Universidad de Alcalá in 1993.  Dr. Juárez has been the resident director of the Academic Year Abroad Program in Spain for Bowing Green State University since 2000, and has taught American college students in Spain since 1997.

Dr. Pascual earned his PhD in History from the Universidad de Alcalá and his PhD in Art History from the Universidad de Bolonia (Italy), after having completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in History (2000) at the Universidad de Alcalá.  His studies have included academic stays in Paris, and he currently serves as translator and editor of several international publications in the field of Art. Dr. Pascual has been a professor at the Instituto Universitario Internacional Escuela Universitaria Cardenal Cisneros since 2006. 
 
Dr. Roshan Samtani
Music & Folklore of España

Dr. Samtani earned his PhD (ABD) in Ethnomusicology from Brown University, after having earned his Master of Fine Arts degree from Bowling Green State University.  Dr. Samtani was awarded his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance from The School of Jazz Studies, William Patterson College (New Jersey), and possesses a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Political Science from St. Joseph’s College, Bangalore, India.  Dr. Samtani is a celebrated jazz and flamenco musician, and one of the world’s leading experts on Flamenco.

María Jesús Madrigal López

Methodology and Didactics for Teachers of Spanish as a Foreign Language

Professor Madrigal earned her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from the Universidad de Alcalá, and earned a Masters Degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language, also from the Universidad de Alcalá.  In addition to her teaching, Professor Madrigal has done work with the prestigious Real Academia Española.  She has taught American college students in Spain since 1992.

Professor Clemente received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from the Universidad de Alcalá, and has a Masters in Teaching Spanish as a Second Language.  She has collaborated in a program against discrimination and for social insertion of immigrants, of the Red Cross of Guadalajara, serving as instructor of Spanish as a Second Language.  Professor Clemente has taught American college students in Spain since 2001.

Professor Sánchez received his Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from the Universidad de Alcalá, and is currently pursuing his PhD in Comparative Literature, also at the Universidad de Alcalá.  Professor Sánchez has been a member of the IUIN faculty since 2004, and complements his work here with his role as professor of Humanities at the Universidad de Alcalá.

Mónica García Serna

Professor García earned her Bachelor of Arts in Art History at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.  She has realized a number of courses and conferences in various venues in and around Madrid, among these the Museo Nacional del Prado and the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.  Professor García has formed part of the IUIN faculty since 2005.   

Beatriz Millán Blanco

Art & Museums

Professor Millán received both her Bachelor of Arts and her Master of Arts in Spanish from the Universidad de Alcalá.  She served as Coordinator for CIEE (Council of International Educational Exchange) from 2002-2005, and has been a member of the IUIN faculty since 2003.

Profesor Galán earned her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from the Universidad de Alcalá, where she is currently pursuing her PhD in Comparative Literature.  She has served as professor of Spanish language and literature, both in Spain and abroad, since 2003.  In addition to her post at the IUIN, she currently serves as professor of Humanities at the Universidad de Alcalá.  Professor Galán has been a member of the IUIN faculty since 2004. 

Deborah Whetstone
Programs Coordinator, Instituto Universitario Internacional- EUCC

Translation

Professor Whetstone received her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from The University of Alabama, and her Master of Arts in Spanish from Bowling Green State University.  She has served as translator and interpreter for the Jefferson and Tuscaloosa County (Alabama) School Systems, and has translated for Southern Progress Publishing.  Professor Whetstone has taught American students in Spain since 2002, and joined the IUIN in 2006.

Bibiana Jiménez Muñoz

Commercial Spanish

Professor Jiménez earned her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from The University of Alcalá and her Masters of Arts in Spanish from Colorado State University.  She has taught Spanish as a second language to American students in both the U.S. and Spain since 2002.  Professor Jiménez has also served as translator and interpreter both in the US and in Spain.
