The courses imparted by the Instituto Universitario Internacional in the Escuela Universitaria Cardenal Cisneros provide our students with a diverse, profound understanding of the Spanish language and culture, and are tailored to meet the needs of each individual student in terms of area of study and level of proficiency. Therefore, a large part of the linguistic content of our courses is centered around skill development and perfection in the fields of written and oral comprehension and expression, as well as in the areas of grammar and vocabulary enhancement.
In the Instituto Universitario Internacional we offer, as a complement to the study of the Spanish language, an entire series of diverse and enriching opportunities. These opportunities are embodied in numerous culture courses in areas including, but not limited to, Film, Literature, Art, and History. The IUIN provides the instruments, resources, and materials necessary for our students to successfully realize their respective academic goals.
Our professors are linked to both the teaching of Spanish Language and Culture and to research in said fields. The quality of instruction at the IUIN/ EUCC is exceptional in each and every area of study imparted in our center, from our main focus, Spanish Language and Culture for university students, to our secondary programs such as Spanish for Teachers of Spanish, Business Spanish, and Spanish for Medical Professionals.
What We Offer: Advantages of the IUIN/ EUCC
Students at the IUIN/ EUCC enjoy the advantage of studying on a self-contained campus shared with the Education students of the Universidad de Alcalá. In this way, international students find themselves in a cozy atmosphere without being isolated from the Spanish university community—a situation which is truly the best of both worlds. IUIN foreign students are in constant contact with their Spanish counterparts in the hallways, cafeteria, library, and common areas, facilitating the establishment of personal integration into the local community.
Our class offerings are diverse in level and field of study, allowing the active participation of all students—from the entering college freshman to the bilingual graduate student. Classes and activities alike are centered around said participation, the end goal being the student’s integration into the cultural community in which our Center is found. One advantage peculiar to our Center, and which we consider essential, is the availability of full-immersion classes with Spanish students, granting the visiting student the opportunity to get to know the Spanish educational system from the inside.
In order to facilitate the student’s integration into the community, both inside and outside the university, the IUIN organizes activities and provides students with information about sports, dance and music classes, and volunteer opportunities. In this way, foreign students have active social lives within the community, creating a learning area which extends far beyond the limits of the classroom walls.
In addition to our courses in Spanish Language and Culture, we offer courses for professionals, whose respective contents are tailored to the specific needs of each area. Our course offerings of this type include Spanish for Spanish Teachers, involving a careful and practical study of the methodology and didactics of teaching Spanish as a second language; Business Spanish, in which a comprehensive scope of topics are studied, including vocabulary, economic issues, and business etiquette; and finally, Spanish for Medical Professionals, courses which enable the men and women of this honourable profession to adeptly assist the Spanish-speaking community of the United States.
The EUCC campus is fully equipped with wireless internet access, an important factor to international students living abroad. IUIN students are granted access to many common areas in which they are able to study, research, and communicate with friends and family back home.
