The Instituto Universitario Internacional is an academic center located in the Escuela Universitaria Cardenal Cisneros, itself part of the Universidad de Alcalá. The EUCC has been home to the College of Education of the Universidad de Alcalá since 1973. Currently, some 800 students are enrolled, most of whom specialize in the fields of Elementary Education and Social Education. Throughout its 33 years in the business of educating the future educators of the Community of Madrid and beyond, the Escuela Universitaria Cardenal Cisneros has enriched its academic repertoire by adding new programs and courses to its traditional itinerary of Elementary and Social Education. The courses offered in Spanish Language and Culture through the Instituto Universitario Internacional are among these new developments.
The Instituto Universitario Internacional opened its doors in 2003, offering courses in Spanish Language and Culture for non-Spanish students. Through an agreement with the direction of the EUCC, foreign students attending classes within the IUIN programs are afforded each and every opportunity and benefit pertaining to any other student at the EUCC and the Universidad de Alcalá. Graduate students and undergraduate students with high level of Spanish fluency attend classes with Spanish students at the EUCC, and various joint activities between Spanish (EUCC) students and foreign (IUIN) students are organized during any given academic period. IUIN students are invited and encouraged to participate in EUCC- organized sports teams and in all activities arranged by and for the students at the Escuela Universitaria Cardenal Cisneros. The relationship forged between Spanish and foreign students at the IUIN/ EUCC is beneficial to both parties, and since its commencement in 2003 has proved nothing but positive for all involved.
The Escuela Universitaria Cardenal Cisneros, and consequently, the IUIN, enjoy the exceptional technological facilities necessary to make the most of today's university experience. The EUCC campus boasts wireless throughout its main buildings, free internet access/ computer lab for all students, student cafeteria and snack bar, gym, swimming pool, basketball courts, library, picnic areas, and ample open spaces. The EUCC provides a comfortable, tranquil atmosphere conducive to study and reflection.
